I used to be hooked on Kewpie products, especially the sesame dressing. The flavour was always so complex that in my head it could go with anything.
Okra is always a funny veg because you hate it or love it, especially when it hasn't been treated well or cooked to death in a stew. So to make more people love it, why not dump one of my favourite sauces there?
I made my own version of the sauce with tahini because I figured it was close enough and also sesame based. Turned out amazingly well and relatively similar
Ingredients
Okra
Sauce
5 tbsp tahini
5 tbsp miso paste (I used the chickpea one from Foodcraft)
2 tbsp Dijon mustard
1 tbsp hot sauce like tabasco or sriracha
1 tbsp honey or agave
2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
150ml water
Salt
Pepper
Sesame seeds, toasted
Instructions
Wash okra
Cook whole in boiling water for 3-5 mins until tender
Place in a bowl of ice water
Drain, and leave to the side
Sauce
Mix together tahini, miso, mustard, hot sauce and honey/ agave
Slowly add the water, mixing well
Add olive oil
Season with salt and pepper
Serve with okra
Top with sesame seeds
